What we measure and why each one matters

• Hardness — sets softener capacity and regeneration settings. Get this wrong and the unit either wears out early or costs more than it needed to.
• Iron — decides whether you need a dedicated iron filter and what media goes in it. Also decides whether a softener alone would be quietly destroyed.
• pH — determines whether oxidation media will actually work. Low pH is why some iron and manganese filters underperform.
• Sulfur indicators — confirms whether that rotten-egg smell is coming in with the water or being generated in the water heater.
• Total dissolved solids — a general picture of how much dissolved material the water carries, useful for drinking-water decisions.

What the visit looks like

It takes about half an hour. We run the tests at your kitchen tap, look at where water enters the house, check the space available for equipment, and inspect anything already installed.

Then you get the numbers and a plain explanation of what they mean. If the honest answer is that you do not need much, that is what we will tell you.

What this test does not cover

Our in-home test covers hardness, iron, pH, sulfur indicators and TDS. It does not cover bacteria, nitrates, lead, PFAS or other health-related contaminants.

If anything about your water or your situation points that direction, the right step is certified laboratory testing — not a field kit and not our opinion. We will say so plainly and help you make sense of the results when they come back.

Why we will not quote without it

Two wells a mile apart can need completely different systems. Two houses on the same municipal supply can need different softener sizing based on household size alone.

Quoting equipment before measuring the water is how people end up with a system that treats the wrong problem. It is the most common thing we get called out to fix.
